That Glitters is Not Gold” is a well-known moral story that teaches us an
important lesson: outward beauty does not always reflect true value. In this
story, a stag learns a painful lesson about pride and misunderstanding his own
strength. This story is written in simple English with Bangla meaning. It is
also easy for students to understand and learn.
All That Glitters Is Not Gold Completing Story
Once there lived a stag in a forest. One
day he was very thirsty and went to drink water in a pool. While he was
drinking water, he saw his reflection in the water. He was very impressed to
see his horns. He said to himself, “Allah is very merciful. He has given
me such a pair of beautiful horns." He praised them a lot and felt proud
of them. Then he looked down at his legs. He was disgusted by his legs because
they were thin and ugly. Then he scolded Allah for giving him such ugly legs
and went away from there. After a while, a hunter entered the forest.
Seeing the hunter, all the animals started running to save their lives. The
stag could not realize why all the animals were running. But when he
realized the fact, it was too late. He was scared when he saw the hunter
coming. He started running to save his life. His ugly legs helped him run fast.
He was trying to run as fast as possible. Unfortunately, his horns got tangled
in the bushes. Suddenly, he fell down and could not get up because he was
injured. Then the hunter came nearer to the stag and killed him. If the stag
hadn't had his horns, he could have run away, or he wouldn't have died like
that.
Moral of the story: All that glitters is not gold.

একদা এক বনে এক হরিণ বাস করত। একদিন সে খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত হয়ে একটি পুকুরে পানি খেতে গেল। পানি পান করার সময় সে পানিতে তার প্রতিফলন দেখতে পেয়েছিল। তার শিং দেখে সে খুব মুগ্ধ হল। সে মনে মনে বলল, “আল্লাহ বড়ই করুণাময়। তিনি আমাকে এমন এক জোড়া সুন্দর শিং দিয়েছেন।" সে সেগুলোর অনেক প্রশংসা করল এবং সেগুলো নিয়ে গর্ব বোধ করল। তারপর সে তার পায়ের দিকে তাকাল। পাতলা ও কুৎসিত হওয়ায় সে তার পা দেখে বিরক্ত হল। অতঃপর সে তাকে এমন কুৎসিত পা দেওয়ার জন্য আল্লাহকে তিরস্কার করল এবং সেখান থেকে চলে গেল। কিছুক্ষণ পর এক শিকারী বনে প্রবেশ করল। শিকারীকে দেখে সমস্ত প্রাণী প্রাণ বাঁচাতে ছুটতে শুরু করল। সকল প্রাণী কেন দৌড়াচ্ছে তা সে বুঝতে পারল না। কিন্তু যখন সে বুঝতে পারল তখন অনেক দেরি হয়ে গেছে। শিকারীকে আসতে দেখে সে ভয় পেয়ে গেল। সে তার জীবন বাঁচাতে দৌড়াতে শুরু করল। তার কুৎসিত পা তাকে দ্রুত দৌড়াতে সাহায্য করল। সে যতটা সম্ভব দ্রুত দৌড়ানোর চেষ্টা করেছিল। দুর্ভাগ্যবশত, তার শিং ঝোপের মধ্যে জড়িয়ে গেল। হঠাৎ সে নিচে পড়ে গেল এবং উঠতে পারল না কারণ সে আহত হয়েছিল। তারপর শিকারী হরিণের নিকট আসল এবং তাকে মেরে ফেলল। হরিণটির শিং না থাকলে সে পালিয়ে যেতে পারত কিংবা তাকে এভাবে মরতে হত না।
