Environment pollution is a great problem. It causes many problems for humans, animals, and plants. Actually, the environment is polluted in two ways. They are water pollution and air pollution. However, water is polluted in many ways. Farmers use chemical fertilizers and insecticides on their lands. The rain and floods wash away some of the chemicals. They get mixed with canal and river water. As a result, water is polluted. Besides, mills and factories pollute water by throwing waste materials into the rivers and canals. Steamers, launches, and even sailboats pollute water by throwing oil, food waste, and human waste into the big canals and rivers. Unsanitary latrines standing on the banks of the rivers and canals also pollute water. Air is also polluted in many ways. Man makes fire to cook food, to make bricks, and to melt pitch for road construction. They produce smoke and pollute the air. When water and air are polluted, our environment is polluted. And, when the environment is polluted, humans, animals, and plants suffer a lot.  So, we should keep our environment pollution-free for our welfare.

পরিবেশ দূষণ একটি বড় সমস্যা। এটি মানুষ, প্রাণী ও উদ্ভিদের জন্য অনেক সমস্যার সৃষ্টি করে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, পরিবেশ দুটি উপায়ে দূষিত হয়। সেগুলো হলো পানি দূষণ ও বায়ু দূষণ। যাইহোক, পানি নানাভাবে দূষিত হয়। কৃষকরা তাদের জমিতে রাসায়নিক সার ও কীটনাশক ব্যবহার করে। বৃষ্টি ও বন্যা কিছু রাসায়নিক পদার্থকে ধুয়ে যায়। এগুলো খালের ও নদীর পানিতে মিশে যায়। ফলে পানি দূষিত হয়। এছাড়া কল-কারখানার বর্জ্য নদী ও খালে ফেলে পানি দূষিত করে। স্টিমার, লঞ্চ ও এমনকি পালতোলা নৌকা বড় বড় খাল ও নদীতে তেল, খাবারের বর্জ্য এবং মানুষের বর্জ্য ফেলে পানিকে দূষিত করে। নদী ও খালের তীরে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা অস্বাস্থ্যকর ল্যাট্রিনও পানিকে দূষিত করে। বায়ুও নানাভাবে দূষিত হয়। মানুষ খাবার রান্না করতে, ইট তৈরি করতে এবং রাস্তা তৈরির জন্য পিচ গলাতে আগুন জ্বালায়। এগুলো ধোঁয়া উৎপন্ন করে এবং বায়ু দূষিত করে। যখন পানি ও বায়ু দূষিত হয়, তখন আমাদের পরিবেশ দূষিত হয়। আর, যখন পরিবেশ দূষিত হয় তখন মানুষ, প্রাণী ও গাছপালা অনেক ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ হয়। তাই আমাদের নিজেদের কল্যাণে আমাদের পরিবেশকে দূষণমুক্ত রাখা উচিত।
