Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a village. He was very poor. He could not maintain his family affluently. That's why he always thought about how he could remove his poverty. One day, he bought a wonderful goose from the market. He hoped that he would get many eggs from this goose, and by selling these eggs, he would remove his poverty. Within a few days, the goose started laying eggs, and amazingly, it laid a golden egg every morning without a break. The farmer was very happy to see this. He sold these golden eggs in the market and became rich within a few days. But the farmer was very greedy. He wanted to be rich overnight. That's why he wanted to get all the eggs at once. He thought that by cutting the belly of the goose, he would get all the eggs at once and become rich by selling those eggs. He won't have to wait any longer to be rich. He told his plan to his wife. His wife was very intelligent and wise, but not greedy. She forbade her husband from cutting the belly of the goose, but his husband did not listen to her. Finally, according to the plan, the farmer cut the belly of the goose with a sharp knife, but unfortunately, there were no eggs in the belly. The goose died, and the farmer began to cry, sitting down hopelessly. In fact, the farmer's excessive greed and uncontrolled desire to be rich overnight took him back to his previous state.

একদা এক গ্রামে এক কৃষক বাস করত। সে খুব গরীব ছিল। সে পরিবারকে সচ্ছলতার সহিত চালাতে পারত না। তাই সে সবসময় ভাবত কিভাবে সে তার দারিদ্র্য দূর করবে। একদিন সে বাজার থেকে একটি চমৎকার হংস কিনে আনল। সে আশা করেছিল এই হংস থেকে সে অনেক ডিম পাবে এবং এই ডিম বিক্রি করে সে তার দারিদ্র্য দূর করবে। কিছু দিনের মধ্যে হংসটি ডিম পাড়া শুরু করল এবং আশ্চর্যজনকভাবে এটি কোন বিরতি ছাড়াই প্রতিদিন সকালে একটি একটি সোনার ডিম পাড়তো। এটা দেখে কৃষক খুব খুশি হল। সে এসব সোনার ডিম বাজারে বিক্রি করে কিছুদিনের মধ্যে ধনী হয়ে গেল। কিন্তু কৃষক খুব লোভী ছিল। সে রাতারাতি ধনী হতে চেয়েছিল। যাইহোক সে একবারে সব ডিম পেতে চেয়েছিল। সে ভেবেছিল হংসের পেট কাটলে এক সাথে সব ডিম পাবে এবং সেই ডিম বিক্রি করে ধনী হবে। ধনী হতে তাকে আর অপেক্ষা করতে হবে না। সে তার পরিকল্পনা তার স্ত্রীকে জানাল। তার স্ত্রী ছিল অত্যন্ত বুদ্ধিমান ও জ্ঞানী কিন্তু লোভী না। সে তার স্বামীকে হংসের পেট কাটতে নিষেধ করেছিল কিন্তু তার স্বামী তার কথা শোনেনি। অবশেষে পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী কৃষক একটি ধারালো ছুরি দিয়ে হংসের পেট কেটে ফেলল কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্যবশত পেটে কোন ডিম ছিল না।হংসটি মারা গেল এবং কৃষক হতাশ হয়ে বসে কাঁদতে লাগল। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, কৃষকের অতিরিক্ত লোভ এবং রাতারাতি ধনী হওয়ার অনিয়ন্ত্রিত বাসনা তাকে তার আগের অবস্থায় ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে গেল।
