Once there lived a farmer in a village. He was very lazy. He had a few plots of land, but he did not cultivate them well. He did not even sow the seeds on time. As a result, he never got good crops and was always short of food. There was a vegetable garden near the farmer's house. One day, he saw that the fence around the garden was broken. He said to himself. "I must repair the fence tomorrow." But the next day, he completely forgot about it. A few days passed in this way. The farmer could not repair his broken fence. One day, he was sitting idly in front of the house. He saw that some goats were entering the garden through the broken fence. At that time, he called his wife and told her to drive the goats out of the garden. The farmer's wife was inside the kitchen and was cooking. He came out of the kitchen and ran into the garden to drive away the goats. Meanwhile, there was a dog outside the kitchen. When the farmer's wife went out, the dog entered the kitchen and spoiled some of the food she had cooked.

একদা এক গ্রামে এক কৃষক বাস করতেন। তিনি খুব অলস ছিলেন। তার কয়েক খন্ড জমি ছিল কিন্তু তিনি সেগুলো ভালোভাবে চাষ করতেন না। তিনি সময়মতো বীজ বপনও করতেন না। ফলে তিনি কোন সময় ভালো ফসল পেতেন না এবং সবসময় তিনি খাবারের অভাবে থাকতেন। কৃষকের বাড়ির কাছে একটি সবজি বাগান ছিল। একদিন তিনি দেখলেন যে বাগানের চারদিকের বেড়া ভেঙে গেছে। তিনি মনে মনে বললেন, "আমি আগামীকাল অবশ্যই বেড়া মেরামত করব।" কিন্তু পরের দিন তিনি তা একেবারেই ভুলে যেতেন। এভাবে কয়েক দিন কেটে গেল। কৃষক তার ভাঙা বেড়া মেরামত করতে পারল না। একদিন তিনি বাড়ির সামনে অলস বসে ছিলেন। তিনি কিছু ছাগলকে ভাঙা বেড়া দিয়ে বাগানে ঢুকতে দেখলেন। ঐ সময় তিনি তার স্ত্রীকে ডাকলেন এবং বাগান থেকে তাকে ছাগল তাড়িয়ে দিতে বললেন। কৃষকের স্ত্রী রান্নাঘরের ভিতরে ছিলেন এবং রান্না করছিলেন। রান্না ঘর থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে তিনি ছাগল তাড়ানোর জন্য বাগানে ছুটে গেলেন। রান্নাঘরের বাইরে একটি কুকুর ছিল। কৃষকের স্ত্রী যখন বাইরে গেলেন তখন কুকুরটি রান্নাঘরে প্রবেশ করল এবং তার রান্না করা কিছু খাবার নষ্ট করে দিল।
